Brave New World

Come Saturday and Robinson and his team will have had nearly two weeks to prepare for the Millwall game and with his new look team including the players he wanted now in situ, this is the first real acid test for him.

In addition, with Tony Watt back in the fold albeit physically if not mentally then we ought to be a damn sight stronger than when we last met our nearest and dearest ( even without Lookman ).

As ever Robinson has let his tongue run away with itself. Apparently we have several players who would walk into any side in League One. In addition, Tony Watt has said he really wants to be in S.E. 7 to play for the team. Sorry but he would say that would say that wouldn’t he !

His public outburst about Watt and making him run and sweat and cry was unnecessary. That also included a demand for an apology. I’m not sure that Robinson was in a position to do that as he wasn’t here when Watt was last at the club and however true anything is that he’s heard, it’s hearsay.

Surely, it would have been better to approach it with a fresh start, a clean plate approach. Alex Ferguson never aired the dirty linen in public and Robinson would do well to follow suit.

As with how good the players, the squad etc. are then the proof will be in the effort and the results. The same is true with Watt. We’ll know how committed etc. he is after he’s played a couple of times.

No doubt Robinson will talk a lot about pride, passion, belief, playing for the shirt etc. etc. in the next few days. We know what to expect as it gets regurgitated on a regular basis. Many of us are fed up with hearing it and I’d imagine the players will be too if he’s like that in training day in, day out.

Everything is so over the top with the man. Seemingly he wants to be every players best mate and I’m not sure that he knows there ought to be a line between manager and player.

For all the years in football management Robinson still says and does the most crass things. Someone ought to tell him as I’m not sure anyone has or that he ever reflects on his comments and actions.

I want him to succeed and for me to find some endearing qualities but he makes it awfully difficult. Mind you a win over the locals would go some way towards it.

Here’s hoping !

  1. I agree with your view of Karl Robinson He is rapidly becoming 'Mr Cliche' having studied more manager's post match TV interviews than man management aspects of his job
As to his comments about Watt, the need for an apology suggests that KR is acting as a mouthpiece for Duchatalet rather out of his own requirement
Frankly Watt is an explosion waiting to happen He along, with Johnson, need to be shipped out as quickly as possible if any building of a 'new team' is to be successful.
Robinson's previous successes at MK Dons give me more confidence of his future potential than his early performance at CAFC - I can only hope that the former is a better reflection of his abilities than the latter!

    1. Glynn, we need to hope that with a better squad he can do well. It'd be great if he can so whilst going quietly about his business.

  2. I must say I'm a neutral when it comes to football!
But i really don't understand why you so called Charlton fans find negative in positive so inviting!
You seem to always condemn any good that your club is trying to change and trying to pull the carpet all the time,
i constantly look at forums and try to understand the fans views but on this occasion you are trying to invoke hatred from your own ideas or your own jealousy why cant you just support your club and enjoy.
It cost you fans entry fees and you all go on like you have invested your entire life savings!
I'm sure you wouldn't be missed............

    1. Anon, under these owners it's hard to be positive. Have a look at what's happened over the last 3 years. Having invested a lot of money ( I bought shares when the club was on its knees and that got me nothing in return but I don't care ) and emotion - mine and my family - I think I'm entitled to a view. This is my view of our manager. I don't expect anyone or everyone to agree. I have a lifetime of passion for my club, there's not many of us left and so yes, I would be missed.

  3. I must admit I am tiring of the negativity. Charlton seems to attract is disproptionate number of depressives - fully paid up members of the "bitter brigade". I'd rather they didn't attend as all they do is drag others down with them. Life is too short to be mired in cynicism and misery. I, for one, am extremely heartened by recent developments both on and off the pitch and wish KR all the very best in his efforts to turn the team's fortunes around

    2. Anon, I don't see my comments as being negative. They are my view of our manager. They don't make me any less of a fan. If I thought Robinson was wonderful I'd say so but at present I don't. He can talk when he's achieved something in my view. I'm not going to write something I don't believe.

  5. Its become the only narrative to be negative with these blogs. The reality is that most fans now want to see positive comments and really get behind the team.Card and all the protesters are all stuck in the past. Its up to positive fans too drag this club back and ignore the doom merchants, soon they will only have each other to bitch to

  7. Phil, it is these stale attempts - whether from genuine Addicks or the regime's new PR mob - to portray protesters as not 'real' fans and as perpetual moaners that show the real negativity. It's par for their course, trying to pretend that things are not as they are. Can they point to another period in our history like this? Bring on the next protests, or better still a new owner before the next round.

    1. Blackheath your paranoia is amazing "new PR mob" it really is laughable if you really want to believe its not real fans bored of this negative tripe than knock yourself out, whatever makes you sleep at night. the rest of us will enjoy watching Charlton climb the table.

    2. BA is right and any attempt to portray those who don't see everything as sweetness and light as anything other than genuine fans are deluded. You show an ignorance of our history in doing so. As I said before if I have a view I will express it here and readily accept that some will disagree. However, please don't label me or anyone else who does so as anything other than a genuine fan.

  8. So Phil, Glynn and Blackheath are not real fans but Anonymous 1, Anonymous 2, Anonymous 3 and a2c are real fans. Okidokes. It's so easy to criticise someone elses work from your anonymous profile. It's not so easy to produce blog material on a regular basis that represents your views (whatever they may be) on how our football club is being run. Why are so many people staying away from The Valley? Look at the empty stands, wake up and smell the coffee.

    1. SA, agreed and I fail to understand how after all tat has happened anyone can support Roland and co. All that aside my piece here was critical of Robinson's over the top approach something I'd have written under any owner.

  9. Everybody wants Charlton to climb the table and get back to higher divisions as soon as possible. I think everybody would also like to have have all fans comments both positive and negative for an open debate. But being "Anonymous" seems a little cowardly to me. Come, be a man (or woman) speak up and sign yourself.
May I ask you why when you say, "I must say I'm a neutral when it comes to football!", you bother writing here about ...Football matters.

  10. All the talk will go out of the window in the opening 30 seconds when we shirk the first tackle and fail to keep pace with Millwall's players.

  12. I want the regime out and I'm happy to see CAFC climb up the table whilst doing so, as I don't consider this mutually exclusive. I don't want the team to fail, I want the absentee owner to sell his toy. If this ownership can put us in a higher/better position than C Powell did then I'd reconsider if I thought them good for our club or not. And we ain't there yet!! As for PR maybe, as they can't control Roland, they must do something to justify fees, hi boys!! COYR And I saw Ian St John play down our gaff in 62.

    1. Anon, fair enough although I fear some ( me included ) that the relationship is irreparable.

    2. no one said your not real fans read the comment properly, the point was to think its just PR that find the negative narrative boring is very naive. There are many fans and growing who have had enough of putting Charlton down at every opportunity. these owners are miles better than the last lot, we were going into real trouble with them.why is the relationship irreparable, what if Charlton reach wembley in the play offs will you not go because you don't like the owner? how absurd. There will always be fans who look to find a problem in something maybe you should either fund the club or carry on banging on about how great you are because you boycott!!

      Delete
    3. Anon, I would like to point out that I don't boycott games and have never given any suggestion that I do ( and you said I need to read comments properly). Thus your final comments are worthless. That you believe Roland is a much better owner is staggering. You do realise the money he's spent he expects to get back. That'll either be by selling our best players or adding it on to the asking price should he ever sell. No one is going to pay over the odds for a club in decline. This we are stuck with him or the club folds.

  13. It's difficult to believe in a regime that's been caught out so many times saying one thing loudly in public, then completely going against those words with their actions.
Everybody makes mistakes. I know I have. However RD now appears to have a grudge against the Charlton support. He's getting no pleasure from owning the club, yet won't sell as it would be a climb down and a final admittance his experiment with other people's lives has been a disaster.
Anybody who is aware of the club and the history would recognise we are in a trough and not a peak.
Nobody supports a club like Charlton for the glory. We are not results driven supporters.
We are the soul, the lifeblood of the club. The fact that so many supporters would rather walk away than give money to RD proves how strongly many people feel about his input.
Oh and sod off all the 'Annes' who try to say unless you're wearing sunny shades you can't be a proper supporter.
If you disagree and argue with your wife/ husband/ child etc it doesn't mean you stop loving them.
I disagree with the current regime.
    I still love CAFC.

    1. Very well said Marco and your family analogy is a very apt one. Anyone who is boycotting games doesn't do so lightly and it must be heartbreaking. They are very principled people more than can be said of Roly and Kat.

  14. "what if Charlton reach wembley in the play offs will you not go because you don't like the owner?"
Yes that's completely right!! no way will I give RD a bleeding penny whilst in this Div, for me it's busted to that degree, to other fans like Phil it's completely irreparable and I totally understand that.

"If this ownership can put us in a higher/better position than C Powell did then I'd reconsider if I thought them good for our club or not. And we ain't there yet!!" I don't they have the ambition to do that.

Nothings happened to change anything yet, (we've had promise and bullshit promises about change before) play offs are maybe just back to where we were before. RD might have more money than all the others put together, that does not necessarily mean he's good for the club. COYR

  16. You never have anything new thing to say a2c just the same old boring copy and paste nonsense accusing people on here who don't know of unacceptable behaviour. If this was the real world instead of a virtual one and you were known, I think you'd have to consider much more carefully the rubbish you are saying. How you think reasonable to call people you don't know xenophobes is beyond me. P off.
